Where To Get Married In Hertfordshire

I have been a wedding pianist in Hertfordshire for over 15 years now and have played at most of the venues found locally on a quick Google search of 'wedding venues Hertfordshire' found within the results on Hitched
I sometimes get asked by friends who are looking to get married in Hertfordshire which venues I think they should look at. What are my 'favourites'?
The honest answer, and hopefully good news, is that I think for couples getting married in this county, they are very lucky to be spoilt for choice - and too hard to pick a favourite for someone else when a key feature for choosing a venue for one couple, may be the exact feature that would put another couple off.
For example, some people would like everything in one room, the bar, the dancefloor, the dining room. If so, venues such as the new ballroom at Offley Place
might be of interest to you. For some couples the idea of keeping everyone together is vital to ensure the best atmosphere possible.
For other couples, who for example, might have elderly guests coming and whom may find the dance floor too noisy for them, having a space where they can sit, and converse within their chosen venue may be a more attractive option. In that case, somewhere like Coltsfoot Country Retreat may be a better option, where the bar is separate and boasts comfortable couches by the fireplace away from the dance floor where people can converse with ease.
Then you have the old venue vs. new venue factor. Some couples may envision their day with the backdrop of more historical grandeur of venues such as Fanhams Hall in mind. Others may be looking for something a little more modern as their backdrop. Somewhere like Aubrey Park Hotel with their new Oak Suite boasting a fresher, contemporary feel feels more in-keeping with their family and friends.
Sometimes venue exclusivity is of paramount importance; knowing that when you book, the venue will offer the option to have the whole place to yourself. If you got married at Sheene Mill you could very easily arrange to have the venue to yourself. And yet, whilst having your wedding at somewhere like Tewin Bury Farm may mean that it is not just you that might be getting married there that day (they regularly can have 3-4 weddings taking place at any one time) I have often witnessed a very special kinship between couples who share their wedding day there, and whilst all their amazing barns are completely separate, just a wave to another group who may be further up the picturesque stream that runs alongside all the barns, is clearly enjoyed by both parties.
For others, a bricks and mortar venue isn't quite they want, and they would rather a tee-pee, marquee festival type of feel to their wedding. That is where somewhere like Lodge Farm can offer you something a little different.
I have enjoyed playing piano for people's ceremonies and background music at all the above wedding venues in Hertfordshire and many others - my advice would be to both pin down from the above factors which are important to you, and which align with your dreams for your day, what feels true to you and your guests and what they may hope for from your day, and choose the right one for you from there.
Aside playing piano for weddings locally, I also run a music agency that offers party bands, DJs for the evening, as well as other background options for the daytime including string quartets and jazz trios. We are a proud approved supplier for several venues in Hertfordshire and whatever venue you choose, choosing the right band or DJ for the space is just as important as the venue choice itself to ensureyou have the night you and your guests deserve.
